Dear Members of the Ethics Committee,
Good afternoon.
On behalf of Dr. Michael Friedewald, Ethics Officer and WP2 Leader, I’m inviting you for a telco with the agenda:
• Status of the first ELSA audit (M12)
• Review and approval of ELSA audit control objectives.
• ELSA audit launch preparations.
Please find attached the current version of the ELSA Audit Control Objectives matrix. (also available in the SVN, under https://sparta.technikon.com/03-WPs/WP2-Responsible-innovation-ethical-lega… ).
As preparation for the telco, please:
• Rank the existing control objectives, using column “H- Ethics Committee ranking [HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW]”
• Propose improvements to the current control objectives (column “I”), i.e.:
o New control objectives;
o Removal of existing control objectives;
o Improvements to the assertions/questions.
If possible, please send me your rankings before the telco, so that we may compile all the feedback and prepare a consolidated matrix beforehand.
Many thanks.
Regards,
Gonçalo Cadete

Dear ethics committee,
October is the Cybersecurity month! And a good opportunity to promote SPARTA visibility among the wider audience.
The communication team has been working on a small campaign about the Ethics and Security commitment within SPARTA, which can be used for the first week of October (this week).
Please, find attached a document with the contents to publish on Twitter and on Instagram, for your approval.
It has really simple messages, targeted at the wider audience.
FYI, the Agenda for the October month would be, if possible:
1st Week: Ethics and Security
2nd Week: Roadmap
3th Week: SPARTA Associates and Friends program
4th Week: CAPE program
Best regards,
Catarina Valente
Hello all,
We are required by the EC to have a deliverable about how to handle dual-use aspects in SPARTA. We began to make a first draft that you can see here: https://sparta.technikon.com/03-WPs/WP14-Ethics-requirements/Deliverables/D… It integrates mainly what is already in the DoA, with a little bit more details about potential mitigation measures ; in particular, we consider that dual-use aspects is ultimately the responsibility of each partner which is required to get the appropriate authorizations from relevant authorities as needed, SPARTA may only offer support for identification and mitigation. Feedback already provided by the Ethics Committee will be integrated soon.
Meanwhile, could you please do a self-assessment of potential development, production, or use of dual-use items in the Activity or Program you lead? Some documentation which may help you:
http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/ref/h2020/grants_manual/hi/e…http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/ref/h2020/other/hi/guide_res…http://ec.europa.eu/trade/import-and-export-rules/export-from-eu/dual-use-c…
Please reply by June 21 even if the answer is no. If you are not sure, please get back to us as soon as possible so we can handle the situation appropriately and be in time for the deliverable for which we must have a final draft by July 2.
Best regards,

Dear Ethics Committee,
We made a first draft of D14.1 corresponding to the ethics requirements related to dual-use. It is put in this directory: https://sparta.technikon.com/03-WPs/WP14-Ethics-requirements/Deliverables/D…
Could you please have a look at it and give your opinion about whether this satisfies the requirements on your opinion (see SPARTA Ethics Summary Report attached)? Any comment, feedback, edits, experience you can share is welcome.
We also plan to contact leaders of the Roadmap, Partnership and Training & Awareness activities along with the 4 programs to ask them whether they identified dual-use items in there are. Do you see any other relevant activity in SPARTA which should be monitored about this issue? We might wait a couple of days before contacting the leaders to wait for your initial feedback first.
Best regards,
