Hello,
Just to complement the previous message (see below), This paper is also now submitted to
the NordSec2020.
Its abstract is: “In the world of growing urbanisation, the development of systems to
improve efficiency and reliability of public transportation services has urged the
development and integration of smart solutions such as bike-sharing systems. A popular way
to integrate bike-share systems into public transportation follows design decisions to
adopt the use of smart cards already in use by other existing modes of public transport
for ride validation. An integration presents high value to the urban environment; thus, it
is necessary to analyse and manage possible security risks posed by this integration
following a security risk management method. We found that integration design flaws exist
that allow an attacker to em- ulate a victim’s card, enabling the attacker to perform all
bike-share ride actions as the victim. Risks associated with this design flaw is
significant as it requires rather modest skills to accomplish and reduces trust in the
bike-sharing system. The result of our study highlighted the necessity of security design
considerations for system stakeholders, although labour intensive, is necessary to ensure
security when integrating independently secure systems."
If accepted the SPARTA project will be acknowledged.
Best greetings,
Raimundas

Hello,
I am informing about the paper submission to the NordSec 2020 conference
<https://nordsec2020.on.liu.se>.
Submission deadline (if not extended): 25.08.2020
Paper title: Security Risk Management of Integrating Bike-Share Systems into Public
Transportation Infrastructure
Authors: Abasi-amefon O. Affia, Danielle Melissa Morgan, Raimundas Matulevičius (all
University of Tartu)
The paper discussion is related to the WP6, Task 6.5, and analyses security/privacy by
design flaws (case analysis) in the intelligent transportation system.
Later, when accepted, the SPARTA project will be acknowledged.
Best greetings,
Raimundas
